The 11th UIC ERTMS World Conference will take place in the Haliç Congress Center (HCC). The Haliç Congress Center is located in İstanbul, Golden Horn, on the European side of the Bosphorus. As one of the few venues in the world where indoor, outdoor and waterfront events can be held simultaneously, the Haliç Congress Center stands out with its low-slung architecture. Spread out over an area of 102,000 m², with 16,000 m² of outdoor space, the Haliç Congress Center is comprised of GALATA BALL ROOM AND four main interconnecting structures called Sadabad, Kuleli, Pera and Haliç. The Haliç Congress Center bears the distinction as the convention center which offers the most alternatives available for all types of organizations in İstanbul. Its halls, auditoriums, foyers and outdoor areas are the most sought after for holding conventions, meetings, conferences, product launchings, exhibits / fairs, cocktail parties, wedding receptions, film galas and special theatrical performances. Incorporating the latest technological infrastructure, the Haliç Congress Center also hosts the largest auditorium in İstanbul.

Turkey is two hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and seven hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST).
All participants are required a valid passport to enter Turkey. Citizens of some countries may obtain visa before arrival and some may obtain it at the airport upon arrival. The most updated visa information can be received from the website of Republic of Turkey Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ataturk International Airport is located 25 km from Taksim Square (city centre):
By Taxi: The trip by a taxi from the airport to the Taksim Square takes between 35 and 65 minutes depending on stream of traffic.
By Shuttles Buses: Shuttle Buses called “Havatas” travel between Ataturk Airport and Taksim Square every 30 minutes. It takes approximately 45 and 75 minutes depending on stream of traffic.
By Public Buses: The Bus 96T travel between Ataturk Airport and Taksim Square every 50 minutes. It takes approximately 60 and 90 minutes depending on stream of traffic. The Public Buses are available between 07:00 – 21:00 hours.
Sabiha Gokcen International Airport is located on the Anatolian shore of Istanbul and 50 km from Taksim Square (city centre):
By Taxi: The trip by a taxi from the airport to the Taksim Square takes between 50 and 90 minutes depending on stream of traffic.
By Shuttles Buses: Shuttle Buses called “Havas” travel between Sabiha Gokcen International Airport and Taksim Square every 1 hour. It takes approximately 70 and 90 minutes depending on stream of traffic.
By Public Buses: The Bus E-3 travel between Ataturk Airport and 4.Levent Subway Station. It takes approximately 100 and 120 minutes depending on stream of traffic. The Public Buses are available between 02:00 – 23:00 hours.

The official language of the Conference is English. Simultaneous translation (English and Turkish) will be provided throughout the conference.
Letter of Invitation
If needed, official invitations may be obtained to facilitate participants attempting to acquire supporting funds, visas or permissions to attend the conference. Please write to the ERTMS Conference Office specifying any special information that may require. Please note these invitations are specifically for the purpose of obtaining visas and do not imply any financial commitment on the part of the Conference Secretariat. Upon request, the Secretariat of the Conference will send a personal invitation to participants. Application for the invitation letters must be received at least 30 days prior to the Conference.
Dress code is informal for all occasions.
In April, the weather in Istanbul is moderate and nice, with a minimum average temperature of about 15°C up to 23°C.
Coffee Breaks and Lunches
Refreshments will be provided during mid-morning and mid-afternoon breaks. A lunch will be provided for attendees each day.
Liability & Insurance
ERTMS World Conference and the ERTMS Conference Office cannot be held responsible for any personal injury, loss, damage, accident to private property or additional expenses incurred as a result of delays or changes in air, rail, sea, road or other services, strikes, sickness, weather or any other cause. Participants are, accordingly, advised to take out their own insurance.
Conference registration does not include your hotel reservation. The ERTMS Conference Office has reserved blocks of rooms for Conference participants in various hotels venue for the Conference. Special rates have been negotiated by the ERTMS Conference Office with each of these hotels and to be given on the ONLINE ACCOMMODATION FORM. This form should be completed and returned to the Conference Office as soon as possible. The ERTMS Conference Office will send you a confirmation of your booking. The ERTMS Conference Office cannot be held responsible for any erroneous reservations.
All participants will be required to wear their badge at ALL times during the ERTMS Conference. Those without badges will not be allowed to attend the sessions or social events. Separate badges will be provided for all registered accompanying persons and will be required for admission to the Opening Reception, Coffee Breaks and Lunches.

The electric current is 220V AC with a frequency of 50 Hertz. European standard plugs with two round pins are used.
Banks and Currency Exchange
In Turkey, the currency is the Turkish Lira (TL). Foreign currency can be exchanged at the airport as well as at private exchange offices which can be found throughout the city and are open from 8:30 to 20:00 hrs. In addition, Traveller’s Cheques and Eurocheques can be cashed at the local banks which are open between 8:30 and 17:00 hrs. The major credit cards (such as Visa, MasterCard) are accepted in most Turkish restaurants and shops.
